February 4th 2012 sees the debut of Can Communicate and Renegade Productions’ new documentary series, Safari Park Adventure on Sky 3D and Animal Planet. The ten part series takes viewers on an exciting behind the scenes experience of Woburn Safari Park and gives a rare view of the drama, emotion and care involved in life at the Safari Park.
A year in the making, it covers the daily life of many of the six hundred animals who call Woburn Safari Park their home. Viewers will be treated to a close up view of everything from the ‘impact’ of a new male rhino being introduced to the park, a bull elephant enjoying a pedicure, hungry lions feasting on an unfortunate deer and mischievous penguins enjoying a food fight.
Featuring some of the world’s most endangered wildlife, the series highlights the lengths the park keepers have to go to in order to protect the highest standards of welfare for their wild residents.
A real technological and creative challenge, the crew had to come up with a way of filming that would work for a world first, namely an observational documentary series in 3D. By developing and customising kit and finding new filming solutions the team have been able to tell the story of the animals and keepers to a never before seen depth.
John Cassy, Sky 3D's channel director commented: "Woburn offers an inspiring array of some of the world's most endangered wildlife and each animal has its own distinct personality. 3D filming techniques enables their stories to be brought to life in a way that was never before possible."
The Duke of Bedford, owner of Woburn Safari Park added: "We are proud to have the opportunity to showcase the precious collection of wild animals, including many critically endangered and threatened species cared for at Woburn Safari Park. It's a fantastic chance for everyone to go behind the scenes and see the hard work and dedication of our team of keepers, including the special care taken to provide a fun and educational day out."
The first episode of Safari Park Adventure 3D will be on Sky 3D on February 4th at 9pm and simulcast on Animal Planet in HD.
